GET-TOGETHER WITH IRENE GARCÍA-INÉS
On Monday, October 9th, Olabidea Residence held a get-together with Irene García-Inés (known as Irene de la Barca), a Spanish artist and sculptor whose engaging personality and view on life captivated residents immediately.
Irene shared with attendees the story of Maya, a ship that revolutionized “la città di Venezia”.
Born in Madrid and graduating with a degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid, Irene was selected in 2010 by the Fine Arts Faculty in Oslo to join the Venice Biennale, an arts organization in Venice. Later Irene decided to leave and embark on a new adventure. The artist bought Maya, a traditional Venetian boat, and restored it with the help of some friends. Eventually Maya developed into a floating exhibition that combines music, photography, painting, etc.
